Flood Waters Receded, Crews Moved In, Power Was Restored

Aug 04,2026 | Huatech

In July 2026, Typhoon Maysak's residual circulation, combined with the southwest monsoon and astronomical tides, brought sustained extreme rainfall to Guangxi. All 14 prefecture-level cities in the region were affected to varying degrees, leaving 1.835 million households without power. The disaster caused 1,624 outages of 10 kV and above power lines and forced 24 substations offline.

In response to the severe flooding, China Southern Power Grid Guangxi Company immediately activated a Level 2 typhoon and flood emergency response. Xiamen Huadian Switchgear Co., Ltd. stepped forward to join the time-critical effort to restore the flooded substation.

The 35 kV Zhen'an Substation in Yunbiao Town, Hengzhou City, was among the hardest-hit sites. When the floodwaters receded, two incoming lines and five outgoing lines were completely destroyed, with some tower foundations displaced over 100 meters by the force of the water. Equipment inside the substation was severely submerged, cutting power to the surrounding areas.

The first challenge for the repair crews after arriving on site was material transport. Roads leading to the substation were covered in mud and debris, and daytime traffic was congested with rescue and cleanup vehicles. The team adjusted its approach: preparing materials and clearing work sites during the day, and transporting poles, conductors, and fittings at night to avoid traffic. After several nights of round-the-clock transport, the necessary materials gradually arrived.

Construction was further complicated by terrain damage. Some new tower sites were located on hillsides scoured by floods, with one slope exceeding 60 degrees, making it inaccessible to machinery. Crews brought in excavators to carve a path from the foot of the slope, clearing rubble and stabilizing the ground as they went. After more than a day of work, they opened a passage for construction and material transport. Once the path was cleared, pole erection and line stringing proceeded smoothly.

From mobilization to completion, the repair crews worked around the clock for five days and nights, erecting 140 new poles, stringing 8.6 kilometers of 10 kV lines, and rebuilding five 10 kV feeder lines. Behind the scenes, Huatech coordinated emergency production of 14 switchgear circuit breakers and five batches of related components to ensure equipment supply. More than 100 personnel were deployed throughout the restoration effort.

At 17:00 on July 30, with the final line passing its test, power was fully restored to all households affected by the disaster. From receding waters to advancing crews, from advancing crews to restored power, five days and nights of relentless effort brought the lights back on in thousands of homes. Every pole raised and every meter of line strung stood as a testament to the quiet commitment of those on the front lines. When the water went down, the people moved in—and the power came back on.
